Buttery Cast-Iron Skillet Dinner Rolls
These soft and golden dinner rolls, soaked in buttery goodness, are a comforting addition to any meal. Made in a cast-iron skillet, they can be prepared with store-bought frozen roll dough or from scratch, making them versatile and perfect for busy weeknights or leisurely holiday feasts.
Equipment
- 1 10″ or 12″ cast-iron skillet
- 1 Measuring cups and spoons (for scratch dough)
- 1 Mixing bowl (for scratch dough)
Ingredients
Pre-Made Dough
- 2 oz Butter Grass fed, salted
- 18 ea Dough Balls Frozen
Dough from Scratch
- 1 lb Bread Flour
- 2.25 tsp Dry Active Yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- 2 tsp Salt Morton Course Kosher Salt
- .25 cup Avocado Oil
- 1 cup Warm milk
- 2 oz Butter Grass fed, salted
- 1 ea Egg, Large
Fat to grease the pan
- 1 tbsp Avocado Oil
Instructions
For Pre-Made Dough
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease the surface of the pan with the smaller amount of avocado oil.
- Arrange frozen roll dough in a greased cast-iron skillet, leaving a little space between each piece.
- Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let the rolls thaw and rise until doubled in size (1-2 hours).
- Brush the rolls generously with melted butter.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and brush with more melted butter before serving warm.
For Scratch Dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Grease the surface of the pan with the smaller amount of avocado oil.
- Add melted butter and the egg, stirring to combine.
- Gradually mix in flour and salt, kneading until a soft, elastic dough forms (about 8 minutes by hand or 4 minutes with a mixer).
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1-1 ½ hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape into balls and arrange in a greased cast-iron skillet.
- Cover and let rise again for 30-40 minutes.
- Brush the rolls with melted butter and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with more butter before serving.
