This recipe is excellent as a beef pizza topping. You will love making pizzas with it at home in your large cast iron pans, and your family will be part of the process when they pick it as one of their ingredients.

Meat pizza with ground beef

This simple 7 ingredient recipe can be used on pizzas, empanadas, rice dishes, and casseroles.  It is flavorful from the oregano and freezes well.

I make this in large batches, vacuum seal, and freeze it to use when I’m ready to eat.  This makes cooking much easier and faster.

You can even make an Italian meat sauce with this beef, with the addition of a few additional simple ingredients.

Most of the time if you order ground beef as a pizza topping, it is very bland.  I think it should be more flavorful, like sausage.  Try adjusting the seasoning to your liking and make it your own.

Once you have it made, you can use it right away for the meal that you are preparing or save it for later.

Instructions

  1. Instructions

Heat a large cast-iron pan or Dutch oven on medium heat.  You can use regular cast iron or enamel coated.  When the pan or pot is hot, add the beef fat or your favorite cooking oil.

Place the entire amount of ground beef in the pan in the pan.  Break down the beef in the pan with a wooden spoon as it cooks.

Add the oregano, seasonings, and salt and thoroughly mix it into the meat.

When there is no more pink color in the beef, add 1 cup of water and simmer on low until there is barely any liquid left.

Remove from heat, let cool to use later, or use immediately for your pizza.

Note

This will take about 1 hour to cook, but you will only have to tend to it for about 15 minutes of that time.
